is an actress, director, educator, disability arts advocate, and Shakespeare devotee currently based in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Notable performance credits include As You Like It (Rosalind), King Lear (Goneril), Macbeth (Lady Macbeth), Alice in Wonderland (Alice), Romeo and Juliet (Juliet), and narrator in such regional orchestra concerts as A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Titania/First Fairy) with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and Violins of Hope with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
Shelby is a guest artist in teaching and directing at Interlochen Arts Academy, Interlochen Arts Camp, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and Fort Wayne Youtheatre. She enjoys producing projects that have wit and humor, elements of otherworldliness, and social consciousness. Shelby has directed A Midsummer Night's Dream, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, as well as an original devised work called
Of Green Gables. As a disability advocate for inclusion and accessibility in the arts, Shelby also directed a Deaf-friendly production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and adapted A Christmas Carol to be performed entirely by adults with physical and cognitive disabilities.
A graduate of the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, Shelby has also trained in Los Angeles, New York, and Paris in various forms of choreographic theatre and voice work. She is a resident member of two professional theatre companies, Parallel 45 Theatre and the Interlochen Shakespeare Festival, and a union member of
SAG-AFTRA. Her voiceover work includes commercials, narration, animation, and several audiobooks through Audible.com. She holds a B.F.A. in Acting from Carnegie Mellon University and a M.A. in Theatre Education from the University of Northern Colorado.
In her personal time, she attends Renaissance Faires, plays a raging barbarian in a weekly game of Dungeons & Dragons, and drinks excessive amounts of Yorkshire Gold tea. Shelby often visits her hometown of Traverse City, Michigan, savoring the chance to read by the lake or stroll in the snow. She is currently working on writing a book of poetry, as well as a publishable draft of her latest devised production.
